Tomeu Moll-Mas
Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus
INFORMATION
The Vingt Regards is one of the hugest works of the piano repertoire, first of all in terms of duration: Two hours and ten minutes is a remarkable length for a solo piece.
Written by the French composer O. Messiaen between March and September 1944, the Regards depict an spiritual path of elevation through several symbolic elements of the Christian faith, from the Regard of the Father until the Regard of the Church of Love.
Many of the colourful aspects of Messiaen's musical language are heard during this spectacular piece: The birds, the descriptions of natural elements such as stalactites or galaxies, the modes of restricted transposition, the rhythmical borrowings from Eastern cultures, etc.
This concert is a really unique experience. My first performance of the Regards was at the Teatre Principal de Palma (Majorca) in June 2015, with a warm welcome from the audience and critics.
