Maite Salord
L'alè de les cendres
INFORMATION
This novel combines three levels –narrative, historical and poetic– to explain the history of a family line through the voice of one of its members, Dèlia Escandel. She is a strong, determined woman, that withstands all tests that life throws at her, a life that she spends between Majorca and Minorca. Dèlia tells her life from the grave, the day of her burial, and from there she reconstructs her life’s experience in a passionate story that begins in 1918 and finishes in 1946. During this time, her family, that represents all the defeated Republicans, was decimated by the Spanish CivilWar, and the women in the family, because of the men’s absence, who were either murdered or imprisoned, will have to take the reins of their own lives. This is a novel about brave and suffering women, survivors of disaster and brutality.
