El tall de les tisores is the portrait that the narrator traces of his mother, a live portrait. In the painter's palette the colours and shadows that the model seated in his armchair gives off are mixed, and the aromatic or rancid oils of the memory are mixed. A portrait that already in the first brushstroke poses the cutting question: "Mother, why don't you die once and for all?"

We find ourselves before the resemblance of a woman marked by a murky family past that she admires and rejects at the same time, of a woman trapped in the present of an epoch dominated by repression and by a strict morality that stifles her rebellion and singularity.

An intense epic narrated without concessions to appearances.

Víctor Gayà (Palma, 1952) portrays the narrator's mother in short chapters, full of confessions and small surprises. The biographical journey reveals us a rebellious and singular woman. "You have never allowed a man's foot to reach higher than the sole of your shoes," says the narrator to his mother, a strong woman marked by a turbulent family past. The text deals with issues such as bastards, tragedy not to be confused with drama, death, loss of body and youth, republican education, the uncertainty of living, Palma and Mallorca, the atmosphere of seafaring and port tradition, the emancipation of women and the force needed to carry it out. Literature, poetry and the need to write are fundamental subjects. And the dignity, euthanasia, fear and liberation produced by verbalizing the thoughts that torment us and the secrets, which are not so much secrets, between a mother and a child, before and after sunset. And the sharp and indelible memory.
