Sterlin

Sterlin presents Llum i negre. Cançons d'Amor i Odi by Leonard Cohen, in Catalan.

Adela Peraita, Paco Torres and Steve Withers are the names behind Sterlin in this project. Three strong, different personalities with different artistic backgrounds who, in coming together, are capable of creating true sonorous wonders. To create this particular tribute to Leonard Cohen, Peraita, Torres and Withers have faced their compositions with respect, attention and circumspection. In the final result of this re-interpretation, Cohen's original tracks retain their basic DNA but are transformed into new songs, enriched with a perfectly identifiable, purely sterlinian, exquisite sound atmosphere.

Adela is responsible for translating the poetry and the impressive arsenal of metaphors closed to the lyrics of the illustrious Canadian into another language. Also to re-interpret vocally the sensibility and the feeling of each one of the songs. Paco brings the rock spirit with his brilliant guitar riffs and Steve is behind the creation of the soundscapes for the re-invented musical compositions.

Cohen sounds Benissa in a woman's voice so his songs are often like biblical prophecies told by a sybil. Adela Peraita is the perfect rock and Mediterranean sibyl of Cohen who in this album talks about a hunchback, an immolation, a suicide, a cuckold or an exhausted writer unable to move his hand to make the world reborn through his writing.

Cohen is universal. Cohen is popular culture that will always be reinterpreted from different places and by different artists. From our home, Sterlin has known how to do it with more current arrangements and in our own language. A strange and singular document, with sharp edges, feminine, strong, resounding and that sounds true.

Sterlin is a Mallorcan band created twelve years ago and currently made up of musicians Adela Peraita, Steve Withers and Paco Torres. Their songs masterfully mix delicacy and energy, crudity and light, slow cadence and rabid spirit.

They have released two albums with the Madrid label Subterfuge Records. Their latest work published is the book-record Llum i negre, with the Mallorcan publisher Fonart IB Publishing.
