Quintet Lluís Vives
The Lluís Vives Wind Quintet was born in the heart of the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra. The Valencian origin of its members motivates the group to pay tribute to the figure of Joan Lluís Vives, the Valencian humanist par excellence, and one of the most important figures of Catalan culture in Renaissance Europe.
The origin of the quintet can be found in 2009 within the nucleus of the Balearic Symphony Orchestra Ciutat de Palma. In 2011 the Quintet was a finalist in the 6th Henri Tomasi International Wind Quintet Competition in Marseille (France), the only competition in the world dedicated exclusively to this group. This recognition turns Lluís Vives into one of the main and most prestigious wind formations in Spain.
The members of Lluís Vives' quintet have studied in France, Germany, Austria, Italy, the United Kingdom and Spain with prestigious professors such as S. Azzolini, J.E.Lluna, B. Fromager, H. Schellenberger and R. Vlatkovic. They have also received advice from excellent musicians such as José Burguera, Salvador Brotons, David Tomás and Xesc Crespí. They have been members of the young orchestras J.O.N.D.E., J.O.R.V.A.L., Orquesta Joven del Mediterráneo and the Conservatorio Superior de Valencia. They have also collaborated with orchestras such as Nacional de España, Radio Televisión Española, Ciudad de Málaga, Sinfónica de Bilbao, Ciudad de Oviedo, Sinfónica Europea Mediterránea, Filarmónica de Madrid, Orquesta de Valencia, Sinfónica de Barcelona and Nacional de Cataluña (OBC) and Comunidad Valenciana (Palacio de las Artes Reina Sofía).
Lluís Vives' quintet is usually present regularly in the Sa Simfònica chamber seasons, in the main concert halls, chamber music cycles and the most important festivals in the Balearic Islands.
The repertoire of the Lluís Vives Wind Quintet includes a careful selection, from a young and modern perspective, of all periods and styles, from classicism to avant-garde.
