The Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra is considered one of the most important orchestras in Spain. It was created in 1988, as part of the Public Foundation of the Balearic Islands for Music, an institution that includes the Government of the Balearic Islands, teh Palma Town Council and the Mallorca Island Council (Consell de Mallorca).
