Misery Strings

About the music of Misery Strings, band led by Tomeu Coll and Miquel Puigserver, it has been said that it is country folk or experimental folk, but beyond the labels it is clear that it ignites the wildest part of the human being. Tomeu Coll's broken voice seems to have been forged in a fight against the sound of the engines of the airplanes, that land practically on the garage where they rehearsed in Sant Jordi, the suburb of Palma where they grew up. They have been compared to Tom Waits, Captain Beefheart, 13th Floor Elevators or even Incredible String Band ... although it is virtually impossible to forget the roots: there are echoes, not too far away, from Skip James or Blind Willie Johnson. The creative universe of Misery Strings evokes bucolic landscapes and references to Faulkner or Carson McCullers, but there is also a point that reaches the soul, as if it awakened our ancestral memory of Mediterranean druids. They are the feast of a barn, a wedding of blood for a good harvest or the choral symphony of the homeless.

After releasing their first album Adventures in Badlands in 2011, they have put their trust in First Steps to publish their second LP: The red witch. Stories from the swamp (2014).

The music video for "Mrs. Blacksmith", by Tomeu Coll, is a beautiful black-and-white sample (not surprisingly, since Tomeu is a well-known graphic artist) of the personal and amazing world of Misery Strings, which recalls the atmospheres of the classic film The night of the hunter: marshes, haunting chases and the house brand: skeletons ...
