Joan Martorell

This 40-year-old Majorcan musician has composed more than 300 works for different styles and instruments, among which it stands out the symphonic work Mallorca. Un viatge a l’interior, commissioned by the Consell de Mallorca and premiered by the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands "Ciutat de Palma" in 2006, as well as Pasejada Nadalenca, premiered by the Symphonic Orchestra of the Balearic Islands, in the Auditorium of Palma.
After studying piano and percussion at the Conservatory of the Balearic Islands, he directed for more than ten years different formations of the islands, thus becoming the youngest director of the Balearic Islands. In recent years, he has worked as an orchestrator for composers such as Hans Zimmer, Lorne Balfe, Ruper Gregson-Williams, Harry Gregson-Williams, Heitor Pereira, Joan Valent, Javier Rodero, Sergio de la Puente, David Giró and Zeltia Montes. Has participated in soundtracks of films such as Kung Fu Panda 3, Terminator: Genesis, Home, Angry Birds, Mi gran Noche, El rey de la Habana, Anacleto agente secreto, Los Pingüinos de Madagascar, Extraordinary tales by Edgar Allan Poe, Las brujas de Zugarramurdi, Messi, Musarañas, Más negro que la noche, El lince perdido, Amigos, Magic Journey to Africa ...among many others.
As a composer he has written music for cinema, television series, theater, short films, publicity campaigns, documentaries, video games, dance ... He directed and arranged the concert of the Filarmònica Porrerenca with Lluís Llach which took place in summer 2006 in Porreres (Mallorca). In 1997 he won the first prize ArtJove to the best composer of contemporary young music of the Balearic Islands. In 2004 he recorded "Capturant un sospir" and traveled to Argentina to finish the album with Argentine pianist and producer Lito Vitale in his studio in Buenos Aires. This work was nominated as best album in the category of new music to the 10th Prizes of Music that organizes the Academy of the Arts and Sciences of the Music.
Later he recordede the book-disk Manual inacabado (para ir por la vida). Guillem de Efak sentido por Joan Martorell, in which he sets to music poems by Guillem de Efak, that obtains a great success of sales and criticism and presenting it in the Balearic Islands and Catalonia. Lately he has presented in concert his compositions for audiovisuals directing and playing the piano along with the Chamber Film Orchestra formation, specialized in performing music for films. He has just orchestrated Nuvole Bianche by composer Ludovico Einaudi for the "The important thing is to share" campaign of The Christmas Lottery. He has composed and made the musical production of the new show of the dance group Los Vivancos Born to Dance; the composition of the soundtrack of the movie Hambre, by director Manu Herrera, among other national and international projects, combining his roots as composer and musical producer with the performer offering concerts with his own compositions.
