Cía. Inés Sarmiento
I was born and trained artistically in Madrid. I have a degree in gestural theatre from the Resad and have trained in contemporary dance. The 90s were years of training and exploration in Madrid, sharing with creators who explored the language of the stage. I met masters such as Rodrigo García, Amalia Fernández and Wendell Wells.
In 2006 I decided to move to Ibiza. On the island I created my company, which is sustained by making small-format children's shows and explores creating performances at various events. These are years in which I put my scenic tools at the service of the public and I work hard performing in theatres, squares and schools. I also develop educational projects, aimed at children, teenagers and adults, in which I provide dance-theatre tools.
In 2013 I started working on Un hilito, a solo in which I work with the idea of female identity, linked to the passage of time. This stage work arises from the need to go into the abyss of original exploration, it arises from the artist's need to create, express, transform. Without conditions, without thinking who is going to buy it. In April 2015 I premiered it in Madrid as part of the SURGE MADRID show. Then I was able to walk more, I offered it in Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca as part of the FiraB.
In 2015 I premiered EnSueños in Ibiza, a multidisciplinary creation for family audiences that fuses dance, theatre, audiovisual creation and original music by David Devanagari. After many years working with children in Ibiza, I created this work with the desire to introduce them to the abstract language of dance, plastic arts and poetry. I have offered this creation in Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca. Also in the Basque Country, with performances in Durango and Pamplona.
In 2016 we presented Paraíso Cero, a creation that explores the struggle between the animal and the conscience in each of us. Paraíso Cero is an original creation that explores the language of the stage. A hybrid of actions, dance, words and video. It is a work that we have been able to offer in theatres in Ibiza.
In 2019, we created El significado de la palabra amor, a multidisciplinary piece that combines dance, theatre, objects and music, in a work that places the audience in an active role, creating images and emotions that the spectator completes. A scenic exploration of a couple's relationship. We were able to present it at the Art Projects Gallery in Ibiza.
In 2020, we created The (in)sustainable couple, we performed the physical action of holding each other's body to exhaustion. We offered it at the Festival de Performance Territori (Ibiza). Then we have continued working on it, giving it the form of a dance theatre piece that we have offered at festivals in the Balearic Islands.
In 2021, I offer the performance "Una casa en el mar" at the Festival Internacional de Performance Territori (Ibiza) as part of the process of creating the work El fin de las cosas, which in 2022 receives the creation grant from the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics.
