Carme Riera

Carme Riera (Mallorca, 1948) is a writer, professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and member of the Royal Spanish Academy, where she occupies the ‘n’ seat. In 1975, she published her first book, Te deix, amor, la mar com a penyora (I Leave You, My Love, the Sea as My Pledge). She has received the most important awards for her career, including the Prudenci Bertrana Prize, the Anagrama Essay Prize, and Spain’s National Prize for Narrative for Dins el darrer blau (In the Last Blue). As an essayist, her research is especially linked to 20th century Spanish poetry and literature written by women.
