Bernardi Roig
- (Palma, 1965)
His multidisciplinary works (sculpture, video-art, drawings, paintings, texts) are an obsessive reflection about isolation, the erotic drive and the desire throughout a refined language of minimalist and conceptual heritage that situates the representation of the human figure in the centre of its works. His obsessive and disturbing works, can be understood as solitude devices in which the urgency of “talking trough the impossibility of talk”, trying to find figures and images for deranged times.
All his works deal with the same argument: the jail of the body and blindness of the look, emblem of the cognitive faculties. Figures always placed in a context that amplify the rooms, they have an enigmatic relation with the space that assumes the connotations of an emptiness increased by the irritating action of light, getting saturated of a physical tension and incarnating the place of a non-event.
His images are born of an interpretation about figure and its position in space. Figures that are isolated and afflicted by an invisible evil that intend to exorcise the ghost of our tragic destiny. They are presences that intend to construct and shield the solitude of the spectator.
This work explores, putting in scene, the conflict of the domain of emptiness and the action of violence about space trough an imaginary that shows us the identity of the individual as a dissolute space without guaranties.
