Antoni Miranda

Antoni Miranda (Palma, 1960) started playing guitar at the age of 13 and at 16 he performed at the Centro de Guitarra in Palma. Years later he developed an interest in Jazz and met Salvador Font, "Mantequilla", and Manolo Bolao, with whom he worked for several years. Founding member of several jazz ensembles, such as Brossat and Téntol, and session player, he has been member of the Palma Big Band and he represented the Balearic Islands in the Muestra Nacional de Jazz in 1989. He was the arranger and producer of the disc Mallorcatour (re-edited in 2004) and he has written music for television (the series Mallorca màgicaMenorca màgica and La ruta de la ceba). He is also member of the band Jazz Càmera Trio, with whom he has recorded a CD.

In 2007 he toured Spain with pianist Joan Martorell and he recorded the CD Capturant un sospir. In 2008 Antoni Miranda performed at the Sa Pobla Jazz Festival with the Travelling School Band and is the guitarist for the cantata Rua fosca, by Miquel Brunet, that was first performed at the Teatre Principal in Palma in October 2008.

With his own Miranda Jazz Quintet performed at the XI Sa Pobla Jazz Festival, in which he shared line up with Marcus Miller, Uri Caine and Llibert Fortuny, among others. In 2007 he worked in Jazztic, with Puniapart company, a performance that combines Jazz with dance, that opened in April at teatre Xesc Fortez and that later on toured Palma, Ibiza, Madrid and Valladolid. In May 2007 the band played at the Rallie Jazz Festival in Düsseldorf.

In 2011 the band was awarded the prize for the best jazz band in the Balearics in the 4th Jazz Palma Comercial competition and performs at the Jazz Expo festival in Sardinia (Italy).

In 2012 he joined the Satoko Fujii Ensemble, with whom he played at the Fundació Miró in Palma, the Weils Studio in Andratx and the Sa Pobla Jazz Festival. In August 2013 he played with sax player Noah Preminger and trombonist Dan Fox. In November 2014 he joined the Chris Cheek Quintet, with whom he played in Calvià and Sa Pobla.
